I loved going to see Santa Claus when I was a kid. I remember being so excited to tell him what I wanted and then getting a candy cane afterwards. I tried a few times with Jacek when he was a kid to get a photo of him with Santa Claus. He was having none of it! He refused and was really afraid of him. So I don't have one photo of Jacek with Santa Claus.
Keaton, on the other hand, couldn't wait to see Santa this year in St. George. He actually begged me to go to the mall so he could see him. I'm go glad I did because we didn't have to wait and now I don't have to fight the crowds in Salt Lake. Keaton was cute because he and his cousin Kaiden drew pictures for Santa Claus. Instead of a candy cane, Keaton got a little coloring book.
I love advent calendars! This is the advent calendar I grew up with as a child. My mom gave it to me last week when we were in St. George and I was so excited she had it. She bought these cute little animal ornaments to go in each day and I love them. But I have a different memory of these calendars then the cute little ornaments.
I loved waking up each morning and finding out what was hidden inside each day's pouch. My mom would fill them with coins and tiny candy canes and seal them shut with a long straight pin with a pearl on the end of it. I remember sticking myself a few times with the sharp pins. Ouch!
I have had a few different advent calendars for Jacek and Keaton over the years.
The current one is this red and white garland with the numbers 1 through 25 on it. I love it!
On the same concept of an advent calendar is the Elf on the Shelf that I introduced last year. Keaton named our elf Twinkle Star and it was the biggest hit last year and continues to be as exciting this year.
Every day Twinkle Star moves to a different spot and leaves a little something in these cute Elf stockings.
I'll start out by stating that I believe every Christmas is perfect from my past, present and in my future. Whatever the season holds for me and my family is what is meant to be. But, having said that, I do have some favorite things that make my holiday season special and meaningful.
Lots and lots of Christmas lights are one of my favorites during the holiday season. I love them inside and outside. This year we went really crazy with the lights and I loved it. It doesn't matter how many lights, but I just need to have them.
I love a little snow at Christmas time. I missed the snow when we used to go to Hawaii. It just feels more like Christmas to me.
I love having gatherings of family and friends over to eat, talk and connect with each other.
I love baking my favorite lemon iced sugar cookie and eating them each morning with some yummy coffee.
I love sending and receiving Christmas cards and letters from family and friends. It's definitely one of the best things about Christmas for me.
Having my parents come and hang out at our house baking cookies with the kids or making Poor Man Soup!
Going to Hawaii and spending family time together on the beach.
Or being home and anticipating Santa's arrival.
I love Christmas whatever we do as long as we get to do it together!
