We are having a crazy spring! It's been really cool and then it got really HOT! Tomorrow we'll have record breaking heat and then we drop 30 degrees. It was such a cool spring that my pink flowering tree took an extra three weeks to bloom.
Lately, this is the kind of resistance I have been getting when I try and take Jacek's picture. He has become camera-shy. However, last week, I did get some cute ones of he and the puppy. I shall name these "The Puppy and Her Boy". I reference Jacek as "the boy" when I'm talking to Asia about him.
"Go get the boy"
"The boy's home"
I think she knows who I'm talking about now. She definitely knows her name now, which is great. I can call her and she'll actually look up at me. We're still working on "come", but she's really getting a lot of things down. We are so lucky! According to our friends who got two of her brothers, we got the good dog! YAY!!! Here are some random things I want to remember about her years from now when she's old and ancient.
She loves to go for your ears.
You have to protect them.
And your hair. It's pure heaven for her to bite, pull, tug, and slobber all over your hair.
She's a biter. OUCH!! Those teeth can be painful. If she gets a hold of your finger, she puts a vise-grip on it.
When she gets excited, she pounces and bounces like a little rabbit. Here, she's pouncing on Jacek's chest and barking at him.
It was love at first sight for both of them. They really adore each other. Buddies.
I have to put a little bit of water in her puppy food to make it soft. Then I have to stir the food around in the bowl so she can get it out. We also have a free-flowing water bowl and it's so funny to watch her jump back in surprise when it gurgles down into the bowl.
She loves to run around the couch and chase her tennis ball. She loves to chew a raw-hide bone until it's soggy, then she flips it up and catches it in her mouth. Keaton's black bear and Luigi guy are two of her favorite toys. She growls and attacks them both like she's a little lion cub.
Shoes! Shoes are her favorite too. She loves to gnaw on Keaton's crocs and sandals. They are soft and squishy.
We went to the zoo yesterday. It was kind of an impromptu thing. The day before Keaton said, "Mom, I want to go to the zoo today." I said, "Yeah, that sounds fun, but we can't do it today. How about tomorrow?" It was a gorgeous 62 degrees and overcast day. Perfect for zoo-goers like us. Eli came with us and we had the best time.
They have a new exhibit right now featuring a rare white alligator. That was definitely a hit with the boys. We also saw an opossum, which Keaton thought was cool.
We saw elephants...
For some reason, Keaton really wanted to see the gorillas.
I love this comparison of a person and a gorilla.
Monkeying around on the gorilla.
After a lunch of corn dogs, fries and fruit punch in white alligator sippy cups, we headed to the playground for the last twenty minutes of our zoo trip.
Here's some more of my favorite shots of them playing on the equipment.
They were both really cute carrying around their own map of the zoo. They navigated around really well and knew where we were most of the time.
After we ate lunch, I asked them what their favorite animal was today at the zoo.
Keaton was sick last Thursday and Friday with a fever. Took him to the doctor the first day because he said his ear hurt. No ear infection, but he had some fluid built up behind his ear that was causing some pressure. The doctor swabbed him for strep, but it was negative. Viral. Nothing to do, but wait it out. Fluids. Humidifier. Mommy Love. Didn't feel good at all the first day and a half, but he perked up on Friday afternoon and began hopping around on one foot.
Grandma and Grandpa came late Friday night. Keaton was so excited, but fell asleep just a few minutes before they arrived. We skipped Keaton's 9:00 soccer game and then Grandma stayed with Keaton while the rest of us went to Jacek's basketball game. They crushed their opponents by 30 points. Jacek played really well. The last two plays of the game were amazing. Eric DeBry is running down to the basket and gets trapped by two of their guys. He bounce passes the ball behind his back to Jacek and then Jacek put the lay-up in the hoop. Beautiful. The next play, they run the same play, except Eric and Jacek are passing the ball back and forth to each other until Jacek makes another lay-up for the final play of the game. They were totally showing off!
Some of the team went to lunch at Arby's after the game and then we came home. Grandpa and I went grocery shopping at The Store for our favorite sweet pepper and blue cheese hamburgers. We ate dinner out on the patio for the first time this season and it was a gorgeous day. Slightly chilly, so Cory put the portable heater up on the table for us.
Keaton and Grandpa played on the swings. More on that story later.
That night, Jacek woke me up at about 3:30 a.m. and said he had thrown up. Poor guy! He hasn't thrown up in years, but it's been going around his school and almost all of his friends have had it, so I'm not surprised he got it. It took me a good 30 minutes to clean in all up out of the bathroom! Happy Mother's Day to me :)
Keaton and Cory gave me breakfast in bed. Honeycomb cereal, toast w/lemon curd, and orange juice. Yummy! Then I went back to sleep until 10:30. It was lovely. I haven't slept until 10:30 for years! Cory gave me a beautiful digital photo frame and my mom gave me a cool frying pan and a book. It was nice to have my mom here on Mother's Day.
I made chicken wild rice soup and rolls for dinner. Simple, but tasty!
She is so dang cute!!! We all just adore her. She is really a pretty good puppy. The first two nights, she slept in Jacek's room and slept the entire night. Then the next two nights, she woke Jacek up at 5:00 a.m. I am really proud of him because he got up with her, took her outside and then put her back in her bed. I love that he was being so responsible, but he was exhausted those two days and he had a basketball game. So, she's been sleeping in our room. I got up with her one night at 3:45, but then she went back to sleep. She woke up at 1:00 last night, but Cory just stuck his hand in the box and eventually she went back to sleep.
She goes potty every time we take her outside on the grass. And, if for some reason we don't take her out, she goes on the potty training pads. Amazing!!! I love that about her. It took months for our cocker spaniel, Sneaker, to be potty trained. Twenty years ago, I would have loved puppy training pads. Asia loves people and is very social. She's loves to be in her carrier now and we take her in the car as much as possible. They have a seat belt holder on her carrier, so we strap her in the seat next to Keaton, like a baby carrier.
We had a lot of company this week and were running around everywhere. She did great at the soccer game and then we left her home in our bathroom upstairs and she did fine. We took her to Ogden for our nephew's baptism.
The only mishap was on Friday when the three little kids, Keaton, Eli and Kamryn, were trying to stuff her in a lunchbox. Aunt Sheri just happened to go downstairs and noticed they were being awfully quiet. She sees a tuft of white and black hair poking through the lid and realized what they were doing. She wasn't even barking, that's how good natured she is OR she was just so traumatized she didn't know what to do.
At the soccer game, I gave her some water in the little plastic bowl. She picked it her and walked around the field with it in her mouth. I'm bummed I didn't have my camera out when she did it. It was too cute!!!
